Howell Road To Be Closed For Railroad Crossing Repairs
Expects detours on Howell Road starting Monday through June 9 between Route 33 and Vanderveer Road for rail crossing repairs.
HOWELL, NJ — Howell Road is scheduled to be closed and detoured next week between Route 33 and Vanderveer Road in Howell, the state Department of Transportation said.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, June 5, until 5 p.m. Friday, June 9, Howell Road will be closed in both directions between Route 33 and Vanderveer Road to re-establish the railroad crossing. Access will be maintained for local traffic.

Howell Road northbound detour:
- Motorists on Howell Road northbound will be directed to Adelphia-Farmingdale Road/Route 524 eastbound, toward Farmingdale.
- Turn left onto Fairfield Road.
- Turn left onto Park Avenue, just past Route 33.
- Turn left onto Howell Road.
Howell Road southbound detour:

- Motorists on Howell Road southbound will be directed to Park Avenue.
- Turn right onto Fairfield Road.
- Turn right onto Adelphia-Farmingdale Road/Route 524 westbound.
- Turn right onto Howell Road.
Howell Township said roadway will be closed 24-hours a day during the project.
Patrons of Howell Pointe Swim Club and Landex Nursery should access Howell Road from Business Route 33. Residents of Country Village, Plumstead Drive, Woodstown Drive and Bennett Road should access Howell Road from Adelphia-Farmingdale Road, according to the township.
- Okerson Road starting June 12 to Thursday evening, June 15
- Yellowbrook Road starting June 19 to June 22
- Southard Avenue starting June 26 to June 29th
These are tentative dates at this time.
School districts and emergency services are aware of the scheduled closures.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches.
This federally funded project is included within the state's railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 50 crossings each year, statewide.
