Howell Senior Center Adjusts Hours To Plan Rides For Members

HOWELL, NJ — The Senior Center will be adapting its hours so staff can come in a bit earlier to prepare transportation schedules for the day ahead.

The Senior Center hours as of March 1 will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., rather than the current 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The new hours were announced on the Howell Township Facebook site.

"Although this time change will not affect any of our amazing programs and events, it will allow the drivers to leave earlier to pick up members," the post said.

It noted that with more seniors requiring transportation to the center and its events, it will be able to accommodate everyone.

"For seniors that need a little extra time getting to the bus in the mornings, it will afford them the ability to do this without feeling rushed," the notice said.

Registrations for events will continue to be at 8:30 a.m., the notice said.

And the variety of events and programs is a real asset for the community, Deputy Mayor Evelyn O'Donnell noted at the recent Township Council meeting.

As council liaison to the Senior Center, she said there is something offered every day at the center - trips, lunch, crafts speakers and more.

"It's really incredible what they offer," she said.

The thanked Melanie Decker, director of the Senior Center, for the variety of programs - and for now offering the Senior Gazette newsletter in color.

She said residents should spread the word that the Senior Center is a community resource. And she said the center always welcomes volunteers to help with programs.
