NJ Weekend Weather: Heavy Rain, Thurderstorms At Jersey Shore

After a sunny day on Friday, rain is expected for most of the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

MONMOUTH COUNTY — Another weekend of heavy rain at Jersey Shore is approaching with the possibility of flash floods, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in place until 8 p.m. on Friday. The National Weather Service warned that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in cars under any circumstances.

"To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments," the agency said. "Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1."

There is also a flash flood watch from Friday at 2 p.m. until Sunday at 2 a.m. On Saturday, showers and thunderstorms can be expected throughout the day, as well as wind gusts and excessive rainfall. Sunday holds a slight chance of showers, with the possibility of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2am and 3am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers before 2am. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. East wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday: A slight chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 76. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72.
