Route 9 Closed In Howell Due To Business Fire In Lanes Mill Plaza
A fire broke out in a building in Lanes Mill Plaza in Howell, prompting all southbound lanes on Route 9 to close.
HOWELL, NJ — A fire broke out in a business in Howell on Wednesday, prompting all southbound lanes on Route 9 to be closed, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The fire was reported at around 11:10 a.m. in Lanes Mill Plaza in Howell when a smell of smoke coming from the building was detected.
As first responders arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke from the roof, said Howell Township Fire Bureau Chief Robert H. Lewis.

Police warned that traffic on Route 9 South is "extremely heavy" and advised drivers to avoid the area. Traffic detours are in place for south of Lanes Mill Road.
As of 12:45 p.m., the fire had been distinguished but crews were still on the scene, Lewis said.

Howell emergency services with mutual aid assistance from surrounding jurisdictions are on scene, police said.
The fire is under investigation by the Howell Fire Bureau Investigation Team and no additional information is available at this time, according to Lewis.
