At 16 weeks into her pregnancy, Allison received a diagnosis of placenta percreta. This rare condition occurs when the placenta abnormally embeds itself deeply into the uterine wall, potentially attaching to nearby organs. In Allison's case, the placenta had invaded the pelvic sidewalls, where the arteries supplying blood to her legs are located.
