Squankum Yellowbrook Road Closure Coming Up In Howell

The state Department of Transportation will be making repairs to the road-grade railroad crossing. See where the detours will be in place.

HOWELL, NJ — Construction is set to begin Wednesday to repair the railroad crossing on Squankum-Yellowbrook Road in Howell, the state Department of Transportation said.

As a result, Squankum-Yellowbrook Road will be closed in both directions beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday between Preventorium Road and Day Break Court, NJDOT said.

Access will be permitted for local traffic only, officials said.

The existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and asphalt approaches, and the work is anticipated to be completed and the closure lifted about 5 p.m. Friday, officials said.

It is one of about 50 railroad crossings being addressed each year through a federally funded project, the NJDOT said, and is part of the state's railroad grade-crossing safety program.

The following detours will be in place:

Squankum-Yellowbrook Road eastbound:

  • Traffic on Squankum-Yellowbrook Road eastbound will turn left onto West Farms Road
  • Turn right onto Adelpha-Farmingdale Road, which becomes West Main Street
  • Turn right onto Main Street, which becomes Squankum Road
  • Turn right onto Squankum-Yellowbrook Road

Squankum-Yellowbrook Road westbound:

  • Traffic on Allaire Road that planned to continue on Squankum-Yellowbrook Road westbound will turn right onto Squankum Road, which becomes Main Street
  • Turn left onto West Main Street, which becomes Adelpha-Farmingdale Road
  • Turn left onto West Farms Road, back to Squankum-Yellowbrook Road.
