Start Your Weekend On Thursday -Listening to "High Standards Trio"
The High Standards Trio plays at R Bar in Asbury, and they are GREAT!!!!

For the past year, I have been keeping a secret, selfishly. Every Thursday, my husband and I reserve our favorite table at R Bar in Asbury Park, to listen to unbelievable 1920s and 1930’s Jazz. We eat great tasting food at reasonable prices. That day, the restaurant features a group of talented young musicians called “The High Standards Trio”. Led by Upright and Electric Bass player, Mike Noordzy, their repertoire is extensive and includes all the greats of that glorious time. The versatility of their music creates an environment where one moment you’re tapping your feet: then the next moment you're swaying to their mellow sound.
When I was a child, my father played songs like “Begin the Beguine”, “Someone To Watch Over Me”, “Maple Street Rag “and “Puttin on the Ritz” on 78 records on his Hi Fi. I have fond memories that I relive every Thursday as this group recreates these old favorites upon request. Their talent abounds in the quality of the sound that resonates in the front area of the restaurant. The back area allows for conversation and a more muted dining experience.
Each week the music starts at 6pm and will go on for three full sets. While the Group attracts a lot of their regulars, I have always thought how wonderful it would be to spread the word. We enjoy the talent, the ambiance, the wine list and the great service. I have gotten the wings and the wedge each time I’m there and leave extremely content. My husband loves the onion soup and gumbo, and just told me not to forget the Blackened Salmon. There is a bar where you can eat or just have a beer and enjoy the sound.
