Woody’s Roadside Tavern has continued to get a facelift over the past few years and recently that effort got a boost from a grant courtesy of the Grow Monmouth Facade Improvement Program.
During a presentation by Freeholder Director Thomas Arnone Woody’s joined Old Monmouth Candies as the only two Monmouth County businesses so far to receive a contribution for the program. The local restaurant, once known as the Farmingdale House received $1700 as part of the program that could eventually contribute $85,000 to Monmouth County companies.
Chris Maltese, one of the owners of the business said it was an important step in helping to keep Woody’s a key part of the local business scene. “We are pleased to have been able to have this facelift financed through this great program that really helps local businesses,” he said. “A local awning vendor was able to fabricate and install new awnings that are perfect for our location; to get the reimbursement check so quickly is great as well.”

The program is funded through a HUD Community Development Block Grant and no funds from county coffers are used. “No matching funds are required from the business,” Arnone said. “There is a total of $85,000 that has been set aside for this program, so businesses should apply now.”
