All Incumbents to Run for BOE Seats

Three board members running for new three-year terms.

Three incumbent  members are seeking re-election, according to information filed with the Morris County Clerk's Office Tuesday.

Melissa Senatore, Michael Stewart and Jill VanNess are seeking three-year terms. The school board has one 1-year term for which no one is seeking election, according to the clerk's office. According to Jefferson's business administrator Dora Zeno, that seat will have to be filled by a write-in candidate, as the deadline for seeking a nomination has passed.

Candidates wishing to run had to file nominating petitions by a 4 p.m. deadline Tuesday. This year is the first that Jefferson will have school board elections in November after the .

According to the New Jersey School Boards Association, 468 school districts from throughout the state, representing more than 85 percent of the state's elected school boards, voted to move school board elections to Nov. 6.

"Serving on a school board is a challenging and rewarding form of public service,” John Bulina, NJSBA president, said in a press release. “It certainly is one way to make a profound impact on your community.”
