Woman Nearly Twice Legal Limit Forgets Crashing Vehicle, Police Say

A Jefferson Township woman who was nearly twice the legal limit didn't remember crashing her vehicle near Pavinci's Italian Grill on Lakeside Boulevard and driving away last Saturday afternoon, Hopatcong Police said.

Adrienne Scognamiglio, 45, of Jefferson's Oak Ridge section, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report a motor vehicle accident, reckless driving and not having her driver's license in her possession.

Hopatcong Police Detective Michael Luciani was investigating a report of a hit-and-run accident near Pavinci's and informed other officers that a piece of a broken tail light from a vehicle had been found at the Lakeside Boulevard scene. Officer David Kraus later saw a vehicle with a a broken tail light on the boulevard, Kmetz said.

Kraus stopped the vehicle and found pieces of the light on the bumper, according to the police report. When speaking with the driver, identified as Scognamiglio, he discovered she did not have her driver's license. 

The woman said she was not aware she had been in an accident, and according to Kmetz, had been drinking alcohol at Pavinci's. Scognamiglio failed field sobriety tests, and the administered Alcotest showed her blood alcohol level was more than twice the .08 legal limit, Kmetz said.

After her arrest, the woman was released to the custody of a family member, Kmetz said.
