At it's meeting on Wednesday night, the Jefferson Township council proclaimed May Poppy Month. Patch received the following letter from the Morris County American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Committee.
To the Editor:
"Will you wear a poppy please?" This question will be asked again and again across the nation during the annual Poppy Distribution conducted each year since 1920 by the American Legion Auxiliary. The poppy pays tribute to those who have died, as well as honored those who have served our country in times of war.

The poppies, hand made by veterans in VA facilities, procide therapy and a modest income for them. The poppies are distributed in exchange for donations which fund Off Station and Ward parties for those in veterans' hospitals and nursing homes, as well as provide activities for those in the communities and their families. Poppy funds make these activities possible.
We ask everyone to wear the red crepe paper poppy as a symbol and national tribute to those veterans who sacrificed their health and their lives so that we might live in freedom.

With your help we hope to spread the word about our distribution during the entire month of May. Our volunteers hope that when asked, "Will you wear a poppy, please?" that residents will show they care about our veterans by accepting the poppy graciously, making a generous donation, pausing a moment to pin it on and wear it proudly!
Sincerely,
Diana Dark, Morris County American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Chairperson
