Dog Escapes From House Fire In Jefferson: Police

Police say the dog was reunited with their owner later, who was not injured.

JEFFERSON, NJ — A family dog escaped safely from a house fire Friday night, Jefferson police said.

The fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. on Friday on Espanong Road. No one was home at the time, except for the dog which ran out the front door. There were no injuries and the dog was reunited with their owner.

The fire was extinguished by both companies of the Jefferson Township Fire Department; the first aid squad also responded.

Police say the fire might have been caused by hot ash outside of a window. A "significant amount of damage" was done, and the home is uninhabitable, police said. The residents were set up with temporary living arrangements.
