Valentine's Day Storytime

Why Go:Β A special storytime and Valentine's Day themed craft will warm children's as well as parent's hearts.

Thomas and Friends Live!
Where/When:Β Saturday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m., and 6 p.m. at theΒ MAC at Monmouth University.
Why Go:Β Cheer and dance to beloved sing-a-long songs "Roll Call" and "Good Morning."Β Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends Percy and Diesel will transport plenty of family fun and adventure.

Where/When:Β From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12 at theΒ Β in Morristown.
Why Go:Β Besides being able to sample chocolate at the events, families can see how chocolate is made and make chocolate crafts. This is the thirdΒ annual Chocolate Festival at the Morris Museum.
Pricing:Β Free with museum admission, which is $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors, and free for members and children three or younger.
Performance of βOliver!β
Where/When:Β Feb. 11 to 13 atΒ Brundage Park PlayhouseΒ in Randolph. Show times for Friday, Feb. 11Β and Saturday, Feb. 12 are 8 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 13 is 2 p.m. This is the second, and second-to-last, weekend that the play will run at the playhouse.
Why Go:Β Based on Charles Dickensβ βOliver Twist,β βOliver!β has been performed on Broadway and premiered in 1960. According to the Brundage Park PlayhouseβsΒ websiteβs description of the show, βOliver! is always a hit with audiences and perfect for the entire family.β

Great Backyard Bird Count
Where/When:Β Saturday, Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at theΒ Β in Chatham andΒ , which runs through Boonton, Montville, and Kinnelon.
Why Go:Β Be a part of an annual ornithological research event: birdwatchers age five or older can choose any spot in either the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center or Pyramid Mountain Historic Area and count how many birds they can see with binoculars in 15 minutes, then report their findings to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Where/When:Β From 1 to 3 p.m. at theΒ Β in Morris Township on Sunday, Feb. 13.
Why Go:Β Families can enjoy pancakes, taste maple syrup samples, and learn how the sticky-sweet topping is made and how it can be used at this event meant for anyone age six or older.

Preschool Storytime
Where/When:Β The Childrenβs Room of theΒ Morris County LibraryΒ in Hanover from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10.
Why Go:Β Because, according to a 2009Β School Library Journal article, story time helps preschoolers get ready for kindergarten, and, they write, βis the perfect skill-building activity!β

Valentineβs Day Themed Story Times
Where/When:Β Guess How Much I Love You StorytimeΒ will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10 at Barnes & Noble in Morris Plains.Β Valentine StorytimeΒ begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, also at the Morris Plains Barnes & Noble.
Why Go:Β Both of the events are a fun, free, and safe way to celebrate Valentineβs Day with the family.

Local Harvest Family Event
Where/When:Β TheΒ Morris County Cultural CenterΒ from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Why Go:Β Learn about local agriculture and purchase locally grown produce and locally raised meats. There will be historical displays about New Jersey agriculture by the Fosterfields Living Historical Farm.
Pricing:Β That depends, how much do you plan on spending on locally grown and raised products?
Hearth and Home: A Century of Family LifeΒ Exhibit
Where/When:Β Β in Morristown from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Why Go:Β A chance to see how people lived from 1810 to 1910, the Macculloch HallΒ website describes the exhibit, βAn exciting feature of this exhibit is an interactive area which provides opportunities for hands-on learning and experiential play; it is sure to be fun for adults and children alike.β
Pricing:Β Admission to the museum is $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for children younger than 12.
Childrenβs Events atΒ Montville Township Public Library
Where/When:Β Library Playtime for children between 6 and 30 months old runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10 in the Pio Costa Auditorium at theΒ . Storytime for 3 to 5 year olds begins at 1 p.m. in the Storytime room on Thursday, Feb. 10. Storytime for 2 to 6 year olds begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12.
Why Go:Β These events are great ways for children as young as 6 months to learn, and for older children to socialize in a safe setting.
