
Jefferson Township High School will present βLes Miserables,β Victor Hugoβs classic tale of manβs inhumanity to man, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 25-27, 2011.Β The Friday and Saturday evening performances will begin at 7 p.m., and the Sunday afternoon Matinee will begin at 2 p.m..Β Tickets cost $10 for adults and $7 for students, children and senior citizens.Β In addition, there will be a special senior citizen dinner theater presented at the final dress rehearsal on Thursday, March 24.Β This event will feature appetizers at 3 p.m., the show at 4 p.m., and a pasta dinner prepared by the JTHS Junior Class following the show at around 6:30 p.m..Β The cost of this event is $10.00.
Les Miserables follows the life of Jean Valjean, a man harshly sentenced to hard labor after stealing a loaf of bread to feed his starving family.Β The show takes place in France and spans almost 20 years of time, from 1819 to about 1839.Β Senior Daniel Malloy portrays Valjean.Β Senior Frank Malzone plays his arch-nemesis, Inspector Javert.Β Senior Emily Voorhees plays the hapless Fantine, who also has the honor of singing the most famous song from the show, βI Dreamed A Dream.βΒ Sara Benjamin, another senior cast member, plays the role of Eponine.Β The true villains of the story, the Thenardiers, are played by senior Ryan Cantwell and junior Megan Murray.Β The romantic duo of the story, Marius and Cosette, are played by junior Alex Dominguez and sophomore Alexandra Pappianne.Β The heroic and dashing Enjolras is played by Michael Collina.Β The cast also includes some non-high school actors, led by eighthΒ grader Mark Dominguez, who plays the heroic Gavroche, as well as Meghan Craig, who plays the young Cosette.
