How Do You Talk To Your Kids About Disaster?

What do you say to your kids when something horrible happens in the world?

There is a lot on television and in life parents would prefer their children not witness–violence in movies, vulgarity, foul language.

But, sometimes, there are some things children cannot–or, perhaps, should not–have their eyes averted from.

The 9.0-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan has destroyed, and taken, the lives of many. The videos that have been shown on television are almost too amazing to think true–the waves of water carrying vehicles, boats like they are toys downstream. The horror is almost too much for an adult to comprehend, let alone a developing child.
