Hurricane Irene: Find the News You Need Right Here

So, it’s a pretty sure bet that unless the weather forecasts are really off base, Hurricane Irene will be hitting New Jersey hard over the weekend. You need to stay informed, and we can help you do that. Here are some resources you can use to stay on top of all that’s happening:
- Jefferson Patch: We’ll be on top of everything that’s going on in town, from the start to the finish of Hurricane Irene, and all the aftermath. You can also get the Jefferson Patch app for your iphone so you can read our mobile site if the power goes out where you are.
- New Jersey's Office of Emergency Management is another resource that with links to storm trackers and guidance on preparing for hurricanes, floods and power outages.
- The Red Cross' Hurricane Safety Checklist is available at RedCross.org. A mobile version is at RedCross.org/mobile
- Follow real-time alerts from Morris County's Office of Emergency Management any one of a number of ways: On Facebook, via Twitter or by texting "Follow MCUrgent" to 40404.
- Monitor the hurricane itself at the National Weather Service's Hurricane Center.
- View flooding conditions via the NWS as well.
- NJTransit customers should keep an eye on travel alerts, and can sign up to receive them via e-mail.
- Morris County's Human Services Department offers tips on returning home, food and water safety, preventing illness and injury and avoiding food-related illness after a hurricane.
- Fairleigh Dickinson University's Hurricane Information Page provides notices for the campus community, as well as key campus contact information and instructions on using its alert system.
- The County College of Morris offers updates to the campus community via Facebook and Twitter (only available to confirmed users).
- The College of St. Elizabeth also offers updates on Facebook.
