Jefferson Plans to Mark Veterans Day with Music and Honors

Jefferson Township observes Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Veterans Memorial at the Municipal Complex on Weldon Road with a special observance hosted by Mayor Russell Felter.  

Music will be a big part of the morning event. The Jefferson Township High School Band will start the proceedings with a medley of military songs as a prelude to the observance. Tyrone Franklin will lead those present in singing the national anthem. Third grade students from Cozy Lake Elementary School, under the direction of music teacher Jan Courtney, will perform patriotic songs. Members of the Police Pipes and Drums of Morris County also will be present; they will 
play several selections when wreaths are placed on the veterans' monuments.

A special honor will be bestowed upon Robert C. Pridgen of American Legion Post No. 245 by the township and the post for his 50 years of service to Jefferson and to the nation.

There will also be guest speakers: Brigadier General John J. Mc Guiness, the commanding general of Picatinny Arsenal; Commander James Amos of the New Jersey Department American Legion and Brigadier General John J. Elam, commander of the 102nd Training Division in Wood, Mo. 

Following the event, refreshments will be served in the Municipal Building.

Parking is available in the Municipal Complex parking lot and in the Recycling Center any time during the day. Parking is not permitted on Weldon Road.

The program begins at 11 a.m. and is free to the public.
