Jefferson Township Residents Help Their Neighbors

In the wake of Hurricane Irene, lots of you helped one another out.

A lot of folks in Jefferson Township had a very difficult time last week in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Power outages, downed trees and floods made for a rough week for many.

But then there were those who were a little more fortunate, and were able to help out those in need. There were several of those kind people. And a Jefferson Patch reader, Gina Riso, came up with the great idea of a story to thank all those who could help out during the storm.

So we put the call out, and several of you answered. Here are some of those “thank yous.” If you have one you’d like to add, please feel free to do it in the comment section below.

Gina Riso:

I want to tell you we have lived on Woodlawn Terrace for five years and never really met any of our neighbors until the tree next door took out our power for a week.   Everyone I know was so helpful.

Amelia and Matt Stankus, knew we were sick and tired of hamburgers on the grill, and they sent over a feast from Vinny and Sons.   There was so much food that the delivery guy had to make three trips to the car!  My kids were so excieted to see the mounds of sausage, calamari, pizza, veal, chicken, soup, salad, soda, water and even deserts...with five kids of their own it really touched us that they gave so generously from their hearts.

My friend Debbie Reboli who was struggling in Lake Shawnee with water up to her furnace checked on me daily and offered us her hot shower when her electricity came back on two days ago!   Joanne Bley offered us her

hospitality and her shower as well.   The Runne family who also live on Woodlawn offered us anything we needed even though they were without power too...My brother, Anthony Cesaro who luckily lives on Ripplewood let us do our laundry at his house and of course offered us his home anytime we needed it came over last night in the pitch dark to help us turn the generator on.

We ended up running out and buying a generator last night and of course this morning they fixed our power...but The Grady family on Patriot Road was still without power this morning so we hauled it over there along with a full tank of gas too for them to use until they get there power back on.
