Kenneth Wilsusen, Former Jefferson Police Officer

Retired as deputy chief of force.

Kenneth F. Wilsusen, 72, of Calabash, NC, died Monday, Dec. 26 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC.

Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Francis β€œFrank” and Margaret Wilsusen. He was raised and lived a large portion of his life in the community of Lake Shawnee.

Ken was a graduate of Roxbury High School and then served his country by joining the US Air Force in 1957.

After his five-year service in the Air Force he began a 29-year career with the Jefferson Township Police Department where he had also served as an acting business administrator for the Township. He retired as a Deputy Chief in 1992.

During his police career, while raising a family, he earned his AS degree in Police Science from County College of Morris and his BS degree in Public Safety Administration from William Paterson University.

Not long after retirement he and his wife moved to the golf community of Brunswick Plantation. NC, where he immediately became an active member of the Brunswick Plantation Community.

Ken was instrumental in forming the first volunteer security committee for the Brunswick community. He was an active member of St. Brendan Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC. He was also a Knight of Columbus. Β 

Ken was a WWII military historian, loved the beach was an avid reader; enjoyed the game of golf and loved being with his friends who he regularly played golf with.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joan G. Wilsusen; two sons, Eric Wilsusen and his wife Kristine, Marc Wilsusen; a daughter, Lisa Peter and husband Glenn and the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Kyle Peter, Makenzie Peter, Karly Wilsusen and Katelyn Wilsusen.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011, in St. Brendan Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
