Merz Honored as Community Pillar

Proclamation read at council meeting.

The Jefferson Township council did something at its June 1 meeting that members admitted was very difficult to do—surprise one of its own.

The council named councilwoman Debi Merz a community pillar, presenting a proclamation in her honor and giving her a bouquet of flowers. Merz was honored for her commitment and volunteerism.

“This is such a nice surprise,” Merz said. “I don’t do the things I do to be recognized, but it certainly is nice when it happens. Thank you all so much.”

“We did it,” said council president Richard Yocum. “It’s not easy to surprise Mrs. Merz, but we pulled it off.”
