No Horsing Around; Ferguson Gets Gold Award

The Jefferson Township girl scout helped younger girls learn about horses.

Jacquelyn Ferguson has loved horses her whole life. So when it came time to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, the Troop 79 member didn’t have to think too hard about what her project would be.

Ferguson ran the Horseback Riding badge for several younger Girl Scout troops. She taught the girls basic barn management, horse safety and horse grooming. Then she built six horse jumps for her horse trainer’s nonprofit horse barn, Helping Hearts. The jumps will be used to train and rehabilitate rescue horses before they are adopted out.

Ferguson is a student at Centenary College. She is pursing a career in Equine Science and Business.
