One Family, Much Damage

A Lake Shawnee family took a very hard hit from Irene.

While many around Jefferson Township suffered major damage from Hurricane Irene's wrath, there may be few who suffered quite as much as the Graham family did.

The Graham home on West Shawnee Trail is situated between two feeder streams, and took a direct hit when the dam at Saffin Pond gave way.

The family lost five cars, including a vintage '66 Camaro. A shed was displaced by 15 feet, the driveway buckled and collapsed and four feet of water raged throughout the bottom floor of the house, including the garage.

Homeowner Mike Graham declined to be interviewed for this story, but said he thought this flood would be more costly than the flood that the township suffered in August of 2000.
