Police: Motorcyclist, 10-Year-Old Passenger Hurt in Crash

Accident remains under investigation.

A motorcycle and car collided on Route 181 in Jefferson Township on Monday night, causing injuries to the motorcycle’s driver and his 10-year-old passenger, according to police.

The motorcycle, driven by William Cortese, 44, of Jefferson Township, was traveling south on Route 181, police said, when it collided with a vehicle driven by Susan Pascoe, 59, also of Jefferson Township. Pascoe was attempting to make a left turn onto Collins Ave. from Rt. 181 North, police said.

Cortese sustained serious injuries to his pelvis and legs and was taken by helicopter to University Hospital in Newark, according to police. His 10-year-old passenger sustained moderate injuries to her legs and was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital, police said.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Department’s accident reconstruction team responded to assist in the investigation.

Route 181 was closed for about two hours. Jefferson Township Fire Company No. 2 and the Jefferson Rescue Squad also responded.
