Question For Moms (And Dads): Is Spanking Akin to An Assault?

Spanking, within reason, isn't criminal. But some liken it to assaults or domestic violence.

We recently heard a very interesting comment on spanking, which will serve as the basis for this week's Q&A. It went something like this:

"If there's something you can't do to your neighbor without getting arrested, then you shouldn't be doing it to your kid."

Provocative, don't you think? A parent who strikes a child commits no crime. However, if that parent turned and delivered the same blow to a spouse, it could be considered domestic violence. Strike a neighbor and you'd be charged with assault.
