Report: JTHS 'Near Average' Among NJ Schools

School rates high in proficiency for Math and English.

didn’t crack the top 50 high schools in the state, according to a report released by U.S. News & World Report this week, but it is near average for high schools in New Jersey, the report said.

The rankings of some 22,000 high schools in the country were compiled by reviewing a number of factors, including serving students well, college readiness, and performance on state proficiency tests, the report said.

Test scores tallied were from the 2009-10 school year, according to the report. Only the top 51 schools in New Jersey were given rankings.

According to the report, 80 percent of Jefferson students are proficient in Math, while 93 percent are proficient in English.

The report also said that only about 12 percent of high school seniors are college ready, based on how many students took and passed Advanced Placement (AP) exams.

Charter and magnet schools were also part of the rankings. Only one school in Morris County–Chatham High School, ranked 7th, made the top 10 in the report.
