The quest for a state title ended for the Lady Falcons on Wednesday night, as Teaneck defeated Jefferson by a 63-50 margin. Teaneck won the NJSIAA North Section I Group III state sectional title.
From the start, Teaneck appeared to be faster on the court than Jefferson.
“We knew their speed would be tough” said Falcon head coach Jim O’Connor. “We just weren’t prepared for it. There was no way we could simulate that kind of speed in practice. They just forced us right out of our game.”

O’Connor noted, however, that his team didn’t quit, no matter what the odds.
“We brought it back to five with about four minutes left to play, which is testament to this team’s work ethic,” he said. “They just wouldn’t give up.”

Jefferson’s Sammy Lapszynski, playing in her final game as a high school student, scored 27 points and pulled down 19 rebounds.
“You just can’t say enough about the season she had and the player she is,” O’Connor said.
The Lady Falcons finished the year with a 26-2 record.
“We lost opening night, and we lost our last game of the season, but we had some pretty good nights in between,” O’Connor said.
