Student Debate Teams Take Honors

Several teams place in competition.

Several students from the Jefferson Township school district put their debating skills to good use at a competition at the College of Saint Elizabeth.

Jefferson Township students earned numerous honors as five of the debate teams placed in the competition. The included:

  • First Place Affirmative Jr. Varsity:  Samantha Schorr and Jillian Adler;
  • Second Place Affirmative Jr. Varsity:  Nicole Cuero and Payton Riegel;
  • Second Place Negative Jr. Varsity:  Matt DelRosario and John Demko;
  • Third Place Negative Jr. Varsity:  Karlee Luker and Kayleigh Silverstein; and
  • Fifth Place Negative Varsity Team:  Dan Zhao and Shazeem Siddiqi. 

The competing debate teams consisted of the following students: Samantha Schorr, Jillian Adler, Matt Del Rosario, John Demko, Karlee Luker, Kayleigh Silverstein, Nicole Cuero, Payton Riegel, Daniel Zhao, Shalin Mehta, Ina Joseph, Maddy McConnon, Andrew Del Rosario, Amanda Hyland, Jenni Silverstein, and Megan Smith.  Debate timers included:  Eric Wolos, Noelle Sadowski, Luke Langner, Noelle Sabatino, Maria Ross and Kelly Squire.

The faculty coaches were Barbara Platz, Stacy Ortense and Dan Papa.
