Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said police officers involved in the shooting .

"The actions of these officers were nothing short of heroic," Bianchi said. "They put their lives at risk and showed tremendous restraint and appropriate force to neutralize a man who was intent on engaging the police in a gun battle."

Officers shot Parera during an exchange of gunfire in a parking lot in Mountain Lakes after Parera called 911 and told police he’d shot and killed Christine King of Oak Ridge, ultimately killing Parera.
