Downtown Jersey City Bar To Close For Good Next Month

JERSEY CITY, NJ — When Jersey City's Barcade, part of a bar/video arcade chain, announced in February that they would close in June, they wrote, "There are still four months of good times to be had, epic kegs to tap, and plenty of Rush songs to play."

But apparently, fans will have to shove their quarters into Pac-Man even more swiftly before the bar slides out the side door.

"Our Jersey City location will be closing a little earlier than originally anticipated," they announced on Monday.

Their last day will be Monday, April 21 (which is the day after Easter), they said.

"We hope to see you over the next month in Jersey City, and afterwards across the river at our new location on Cortlandt Street [NY]," they wrote.

While the bar is for patrons over 21, they will still have their family day on April 6, allowing kids to play the games and enjoy the bar food as well.

Barcade, located on the pedestrian path on Newark Avenue, originally intended to close on June 15.

They opened in Jersey City 14 years ago, they said.

On Feb. 6, they wrote, "We hope to return to JC one day in a new location but in the meantime, we are opening very soon just a short train ride away on Cortlandt Street in lower Manhattan this spring."
