Fugitive In Jersey City Heights Triple Shooting Caught In Florida, Charged With Murder

A Jersey City man, 20, was captured in Orlando, Fla. and charged with murder in connection with a Jersey City Heights triple shooting.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a triple shooting that occurred in Jersey City Heights on Sunday, April 7.

Darren Estevez, of Jersey City, has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, weapons possession charges, and two counts of aggravated assault, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

He's charged in the shooting in the area of Central Avenue and Bowers Street that left Freddie Posey, 25, of Jersey City, dead on the night of April 7.

A 30-year-old Jersey City woman and 24-year-old Jersey City man were also shot in the area of and were treated at the time for non-life-threatening injuries, prosecutors said.

Estevez was arrested in Orlando, Fla. this past Sunday by members of the Orlando Police Department on an unrelated matter, said prosecutors.

Estevez is being held as a fugitive from justice at the Orange County Corrections Department pending extradition to New Jersey.

Early in the investigation, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit had arrested Aaliyah Rivera, 23, of Jersey City, and charged her with murder as an accomplice and conspiracy to commit murder.

She's being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

The case remains under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department.
