Girl, 13, Arrested On Christmas Eve, Charged In Man's Death: PD

A 13-year-old Jersey City girl was arrested on Christmas Eve and charged with murder in connection with a shooting death, prosecutors said

JERSEY CITY – A 13-year-old Jersey City girl was arrested on Christmas Eve and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a 35-year-old man, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Niles Holmes was shot on Martin Luther King Drive and Wilkinson on the afternoon of Dec. 10th, according to the HCPO.

The teen was apprehended and arrested by Jersey City Police Officers just before 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24th, in the area of Union Street and MLK Drive, according to the HCPO.

She has been charged as a juvenile with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and related offenses.

The shooting took place on Thursday, Dec. 10th, just after 4:16 p.m., when members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Wilkinson Avenue on a report of a person shot, the HCPO said.

Responding officers found the victim, Holmes, who was unconscious and had apparent multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, the HCPO said.

The victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center in a life-threatening condition. He was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m., the HCPO said.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the upper torso and the manner of death as a homicide, the HCPO said.

A short time after the initial victim was located, Jersey City Police found a second victim of the shooting, a 24-year-old Jersey City man, who had sustained two graze wounds to the arm. He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the HCPO said.

An investigation is ongoing.
