High Winds Collapse Jersey City Building Under Construction
Nearby buildings, including a school, were damaged in the collapse.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — High winds on Monday night took down a partially constructed building in Jersey City.
The building at 35 Fisk Street was four-storis tall before it was knockedonto neighboring buildings, including homes on either side, which were all evacuated. The Growing Tree Learning Center, a school nearby operated by United Cerebral Palsy, is closed Tuesday due to the incident.
Jersey City Fire Chief Steven McGill said in media interviews on Monday night that the structure fell, "five to 19 feet off the foundation."
