Holiday Fair Coming Up At Jersey City's Apple Tree House

Exhibits and performances will highlight Jersey City's wonderfully diverse and interesting holiday celebration traditions.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A holiday fair will be taking over Jersey City for the next two Saturdays.

The Museum of Jersey City History at the Apple Tree House and the Jersey City Office of
Cultural Affairs are presenting: Traditions: Celebrating the Holidays in Jersey City at the Apple
Tree House, located at 298 Academy Street.

The fair will take place Dec. 11, from 1 to 5 p.m., and again on Dec. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event will feature exhibits and performances highlighting Jersey City's wonderfully diverse
and interesting holiday celebration traditions. Holiday gifts will be distributed to children and
refreshments will be served.

Featured exhibitors include Santero Art by Jersey City visual artist Rafael, Indian crafts and holiday displays from Surati Arts and Entertainment and author Priya Kumari, Dreidel games, a Winter Solstice display from Seasons in Mind (12/18 only), Bergen Square history from the Bergen Square Historical Society, a Kwanzaa display by Makeni Williams (12/18 only), and much more.

Featured performers include Instruments of Praise, poet Rescue Poetix, Sikh Bhangra traditional
dance (12/18 only), Gatka – a Sikh martial Arts ritual (12/18 only), Makeni Williams and an
African traditional dance, and more.

Miss New Jersey, Katerina Katakalides, a Jersey City native, will be stopping by the Apple Tree
House on Saturday, December 11.

James Dievler, board member of the Museum of Jersey City History, explains, “This is a
wonderful opportunity to experience the future home of the Museum of Jersey City History as it
fills with light and music and a marvelous array of Jersey City culture.”

The Museum of Jersey City History will have its grand opening in April 2022 with an exhibit of
The Hague Years, which will explore the life and times of Mayor Frank Hague who served from
1917 to 1947, an extraordinarily transformational period in the life of Jersey City.

Visitors to the holiday program are encouraged to be fully vaccinated for Covid before coming to
the Apple Tree House on December 11 and December 18. Face masks will be required indoors.
