JERSEY CITY, NJ — Of the hundreds of restaurants and chefs nationwide that were nominated as semifinalists for a prestigious James Beard award, only two were picked in New Jersey — and one is right in Hudson County.

It's Razza, the often lauded pizzeria in Jersey City's Grove Street area, helmed by chef and author Dan Richer.

Razza has been receiving plaudits for its thin-crust pizzas since the New York Times wrote about it in 2017 in an article asking, "Is New York's Best Pizza In New Jersey?"

Their pizzas range from the classic Margherita to Project Hazelnut, with local ingredients.

Razza moved to 277 Grove St. in 2022.

In the past, other local chefs and shops have been nominated, including Chef Nur-E Gulshan Rahman, who had no formal culinary training, for her work at Korai Kitchen, a Bangladeshi restaurant in Jersey City.

Earlier, Cucharamama in Hoboken won, but that wasn't enough to save it from being shut down due to the pandemic in 2020. READ MORE: James Beard-Winning Hoboken Restaurant Shuts With Note
