Hudson County 8th Grader Moves To Scripps National Spelling Bee
She's done it before. This Jersey City spelling w-h-i-z is heading to the prestigious national spelling bee.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — This week, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy met with Hudson County’s 2024 Spelling Bee Champion Kavya Jakasania from Jersey City to congratulate her on her success. She will now move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Last year, Kavya, an eighth grader at Frank R. Conwell Middle School #4, was also the local champion.
The national bee will take place the last week in May.

“It was an honor to meet Hudson County’s Champion, Kavya Jakasania, and to hear about how it feels to come out on top two years in a row," Guy said. "She is a wonderfully intelligent and charismatic individual who no doubt has a bright future ahead of her. I wish her the very best at the Scripps National Spelling Bee."
