Menorah Lighting To Be Held In Jersey City Monday For Hanukkah

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Hanukkah begins at sundown Sunday, and Jersey City is preparing for the annual menorah lighting on Monday.
The lighting will take place at City Hall, 280 Grove St., Monday, Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m.

Hanukkah is the Hebrew word for dedication. The eight-day observance commemorates the Jews rising up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors, who wanted to suppress their religion and worship. The Jewish Maccabean Revolt took place in Second Century B.C.
