Jersey City's Newest Journal Square Residential Tower, Urby, Tops Out At 25 Stories
As Jersey City's Journal Square area changes and builds up, one of several new residential towers has topped out at 25 stories.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City's Journal Square neighborhood, in the heart of the city, continues to transform. Now, Urby, the new residential tower rising across from the Journal Square PATH Station, has reached its topping out point at 265 feet.
There are already six other Urby apartment buildings in the metropolitan area, which feature social activities in common areas, ground-floor retail, and apartments with a view. Among them, a 69-story Urby is already located in the Harborside waterfront neighborhood.
The final beam is in place for the newest Urby, with 317 apartments and "social spaces" including a roof garden with a pool, work from home spaces, and uninterrupted views of the Manhattan skyline.

Expected to be completed in the Spring of 2024, the Journal Square Urby will include studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Leasing will start in spring, a spokesperson said.
Planned amenities include an integrated café in the lobby, a huge state-of-the-art gym complete with an attached yoga studio and stretching area, and a suite of indoor and outdoor features on the 25th floor, such as work from home spaces, a roof garden, pool, BBQ areas, and a dog park with panoramic views.

“We are excited to share the construction progress at Journal Square Urby and look forward to opening our second Urby location in Jersey City,” said David Barry, Founder and CEO of Urby. “Journal Square Urby will offer the unique shared spaces and inspired design that define the Urby brand, while also creating an intimate boutique environment for residents to connect with one another and the culturally-rich neighborhood.”
Designed by Concrete, the award-winning Dutch design firm responsible for citizenM Hotels around the world, with HLW serving as Executive Architect, Journal Square Urby will feature a design and layout that complements the existing neighborhood scale at the street level while providing a visually-dynamic tower that breaks out into three distinct masses.
Outdoor spaces will be designed by internationally renowned landscape architect Bureau Bas Smets, which was recently awarded the commission for the grounds of the legendary Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Urby has commissioned a significant mural on the side of the building by contemporary artist Felipe Pantone, an Argentinian-Spanish artist whose work deals with dynamism, transformation, digital revolution, and themes related to the present times.
