Overturned Van On Light Rail Tracks Shuts Down Hudson-Bergen Line

The van is toppled on the tracks at the Liberty State Park Light Rail station.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A van flipped over the guardrail on Communipaw Avenue onto the Light Rail tracks just before Liberty State Park Station.

The van is turned on its head on the tracks, and service to the Hudson-Bergen line has been temporarily suspended. Parts of Communipaw Avenue near the station are closed.

Jersey City Police, NJ Transit Police and emergency service crews were all on scene.

Police at the scene could not release specific details about the crash but said it was still under investigation.

Light Rail service remains suspended on the West Side branch between Liberty State Park and Garfield Avenue; and on the Bayonne branch between Liberty State Park and Richard Street, subsitute bus service will be provided.

A bystander who spoke to Patch said he walked over from the Jersey Avenue station after work and will have to take the bus to Bayonne since service is shut down.
