1. 2 New Restaurants Coming To Downtown Jersey City (patch.com) — Downtown Jersey City’s Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza is getting two new eateries, including a café at 197 Newark Ave. and Shanway Chengdu Kitchen at 189 Newark Ave. The additions continue the area’s Restaurant Row transformation and follow closures of previous tenants, giving local diners fresh options in the heart of the city.
   

2. Jersey City BOE elects Velazquez president again, Morris VP; 3 trustees sworn in (hudsoncountyview.com) — Jersey City’s Board of Education has re-elected Noemi Velazquez as president and chosen Dejon Morris as vice president during its annual reorganization meeting, where three trustees and a student representative were sworn in. The board discussed its priorities for the new year, highlighted the district’s diversity, and heard from former trustees and union leadership urging a continued focus on students.
   

3. N.J. Office of the Sec. of Higher Education awards NJCU $9M for campus upgrades (hudsoncountyview.com) — New Jersey City University is set to receive nearly $8.9 million in state capital grants for long-needed campus upgrades in Jersey City, including roof repairs, safety-related infrastructure, and modernized student service areas. The funding, part of a $244.4 million statewide package, will also replace aging network systems and improve key buildings like Hepburn Hall, aiming to enhance daily life for NJCU students and staff.
   

4. Undead Arts & New Jersey Symphony to Present 'The Magic Flute' (operawire.com) — A reimagined, family-friendly production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” is coming to Jersey City’s Harborside Atrium on May 2 and 3, featuring local public school students alongside international opera singers and New Jersey Symphony musicians. The 90-minute show, set in the New Jersey Pine Barrens and told through Jersey City youths’ eyes, blends regional folklore, modern English translation, and immersive staging.
   

5. Rock thrown at school bus on New Jersey Turnpike, child seriously injured, police say (cbsnews.com) — Third-graders returning from a trip to Liberty Science Center in Jersey City were caught in a terrifying incident when a rock smashed through their school bus window on the New Jersey Turnpike, seriously injuring an 8-year-old. State Police are investigating the attack as aggravated assault and are asking witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage near Exit 70A/B to come forward.
