Traffic Light Sat On Jersey City Corner For Days After Crash (Update)
Residents were wondering when a fallen Jersey City traffic light would be removed from a street corner.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A traffic light sat on a sidewalk on the west side of Jersey City for three days, residents said, and they wondered whose responsibility it was to remove it (see second photo above).
"Awful looking crash at Mallory and Communipaw," posted one woman on Saturday morning. "Two cars, both totalled from what I could see. One completely up on the sidewalk, knocked over a traffic light. You don't get wrecks like this when cars are going 25mph. @SafeStreetsJC"
In fact, the city of Jersey City started a safety improvement project in that area in May, saying that there have been 42 crashes on Mallory Avenue in the last five years, with residents expressing concerns.

But residents weren't just worried about road safety. One resident pointed out on Tuesday morning that the traffic light and debris from Saturday's crash were still lying on the sidewalks on the corner.
"3 days later THE TRAFFIC LIGHT IS STILL HERE," wrote Megan Carolan, "making the intersection even more dangerous. Blocking sidewalk and ramp to cross, broken glass (plexiglass?) Everywhere. @HudCoTweet @JerseyCity come fix this!"

UPDATE: As of Tuesday afternoon, the light has been removed, said Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.
If you see a non-urgent problem, you can report it using SeeClickFix. You can also call the JCPD or Resident Response Center, the city said.
A county spokesperson said that the corner fell under the city's purview.
One social media commenter wrote, "Car drove through a street sign when I lived in JC. I called and emailed the city 5 times to come get the sign and pole out of the road. They never came so I dealt with it...lol." He displayed the Provost and First Street signs in a photo, presumably in his home.
