State Senate Passes Bill to Help City Collect Tax That Funds Schools (jcitytimes.com) — Jersey City’s school budget could get a boost from a new state bill that just passed the Senate, requiring state agencies to share key tax data with cities that levy employer payroll taxes. Because all of Jersey City’s payroll tax revenue goes to its public schools, local lawmakers say better information could mean more complete collections and more money for classrooms.

NJIB's Guide to the New Jersey First Day Hike (newjerseyisntboring.com) — If you’re staying local on New Year’s Day, Liberty State Park in Jersey City is hosting two free First Day Hikes out to Caven Point, including a sunrise birding walk and a later shoreline trek. Two Jersey City gang members convicted in triple murder that killed pregnant woman (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Two members of a gang operating in Jersey City have been convicted on federal charges for a 2017 triple murder, with both men now facing mandatory life sentences. Investigators say the Jersey City Violent Crime Initiative task force played a key role in solving the case. Sentencing is set for April 22, 2026, underscoring ongoing federal focus on local gang violence.
   

4. Sam Cali Invitational, 2025: Quarterfinals pairings (nj.com subscription) — Wrestlers from Jersey City’s St. Peter’s Prep are moving into the quarterfinals at the Sam Cali Invitational, with several Marauders still alive across multiple weight classes.
