JERSEY CITY, NJ — Just because summer's almost over, doesn't mean you can't still scream for ice cream, especially when it's being served at a new spot.
Van Leeuwen ice cream opened in August in downtown Jersey City, just around the corner from the Newark Avenue pedestrian mall.
The shop boasts regular and vegan ice cream, as well as cookies and other treats.

The owners note on their website, "We started Van Leeuwen Ice Cream in a yellow truck on the streets of NYC in 2008 with a mission to make good ice cream that makes you feel good. What could be happier than that magic combination of milk, cream, eggs, and cane sugar (or coconuts, cashews and oats for our vegan friends)?"
They now have shops across the country, including in Texas and California. Their other New Jersey shop is located in American Dream Mall in Bergen County.
Besides serving up scoops at their shops, they also cater and hold events.
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream opened on Aug. 8 at 347 Grove St. in Jersey City. Find out more here.
