Neptune’s Daughter: Crafting On-Water Escapes That Go Beyond Vacations

A seasoned captain's love of the sea meets curated experiences—see how this brand blends nautical heritage, personalized adventure.

What is the story behind the name “Neptune’s Daughter,” and how does it reflect your brand’s identity?

The founding duo wanted a name that blended the spirit of the sea with the founder’s personality and deep-rooted connection to sailing. After 25 years on the water, Nitzan Levy is a well-known and respected sailor in her local community—someone who embodies both adventure and authenticity.
The name Neptune’s Daughter came about unexpectedly when a friend asked her, “Are you a Neptune’s Daughter?” after a conversation he’d had with women sailors in the Gulf of Mexico. Nitzan laughed and answered, “Of course I am!”
The phrase stuck. When she told the story to her partner, Ed Guy, he immediately referenced the classic 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter starring Esther Williams—famous for the song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” The name felt playful, timeless, and perfectly aligned with the elegance and joy of sailing.
Today, Neptune’s Daughter reflects its brand’s identity: a blend of nautical heritage, personal connection, and the belief that unforgettable sailing vacations begin with a story worth telling.

What inspired you to launch this business, and what personal experiences shaped its development?

Neptune’s Daughter grew out of a life-changing experience. Nitzan’s first sailing vacation—an early bareboat charter in Greece—was the moment she fell completely in love with the freedom, beauty, and discovery found on the water. That trip changed the course of her life, igniting a passion that eventually became her professional path.
Over the next two decades, she sailed extensively around the world, from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean to the Pacific. She saw firsthand how transformative a sailing vacation could be—how it brings people closer, inspires confidence, sparks curiosity, and creates lifelong memories.
Friends, then friends-of-friends, and eventually total strangers began turning to her for help planning their own adventures. They wanted the insider knowledge, the trusted expertise, and the sense of ease she naturally brought to the process.
When she and her partner, Ed Guy, combined their skills—Nitzan’s deep travel and charter experience with Ed’s decades of sailing, engineering, safety, and marine operations—the vision for Neptune’s Daughter became fully formed:
A boutique, bespoke sailing-vacation company helping travelers plan extraordinary experiences on the water with confidence and joy.
Neptune’s Daughter is more than a travel company. It’s the culmination of personal passion, global exploration, and a genuine love of helping others discover the magic of life at sea.

When did you realize there was a demand for what Neptune’s Daughter offers?

Back in 2013, when Nitzan was running Sailors NYC, the club would escape the cold each winter with a single off-season Caribbean flotilla. It was meant to be a one-trip-a-year tradition: a chance to trade New York snow for turquoise water, sunshine, and bare feet on deck.
But by 2016, something unexpected happened. That “one trip” wasn’t enough anymore. Members were asking for more—more islands, more adventure, more opportunities to learn and explore. So one flotilla became two. And between 2017 and 2019, the momentum became undeniable. Word spread, enthusiasm grew, and sailors from all backgrounds started joining these trips, bringing friends, spouses, and soon… strangers who had only heard about “those amazing sailing vacations.”
The destinations expanded just as quickly:
Cuba, Greece, Croatia, Thailand, Seychelles—places people dreamed about but didn’t know how to plan on their own.
Then came the Belize flotilla. It was supposed to be one boat, eight guests, a simple early-spring getaway in March 2020. It sold out instantly. The excitement around that trip made it clear: people didn’t just want a vacation—they wanted a curated experience, guided by someone they trusted.
And then, of course, the world stopped.

Late 2021: The Turning Point

When travel returned, it didn’t return quietly. People were hungry for connection, nature, and meaningful experiences—and the phone started ringing in a way it never had before.
That “one boat to Belize” turned into a three-catamaran flotilla for 22 guests, almost overnight. And at the same time, requests started coming in from every direction: families wanting private crewed charters, couples planning milestone celebrations, seasoned sailors looking for bareboats, and groups seeking bucket-list adventures in far-flung places.
That was the moment Nitzan and Ed knew—the world didn’t just need a charter broker. It needed on-water travel experts. People who could design trips with care, navigate the complexities, and craft journeys that felt personal, thoughtful, and truly unforgettable.
