LACEY, NJ — If you’re like many of your Lacey neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

1. Lacey Food Bank: The food bank's goal is to ensure that no one in Lacey Township goes hungry. Monetary and food donations are both needed, along with toiletries and paper goods.
2. Xodus Recovery Community Center: Recovery from substance abuse disorders is possible thanks to the volunteers here, who provide peer-to-peer support to build a sober community.
3. Woman's Club of Lacey: “Dedicated to pursue with diligence the best life for our home and community,” this group helps improve the community through volunteer work.
4. Bridges to Safety: This rescue helps animals who are at risk of being killed. Many come from high risk situations or have been abandoned.
5. Rotary Club of Forked River: With a mission to “provide volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups to give back to their communities and make a positive impact,” they raise funds for charitable projects.
