DEP: Lacey Brush Fire Brewing in Forked River Mountain Area

The five-acre brush fire is in a very remote area and poses no danger to businesses or residents, DEP spokesperson says

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - The New Jersey State Forest Fire Service is working to contain a five-acre brush fire in the remote Forked River Mountain section of the township, a spokesperson for the state Department of Environmental Protection said.

"There is no threat to any homes, structures, businesses or anything of value in the area," spokesperson Caryn Shinske said.

A fire spotter in the Cedar Bridge Fire Tower saw the blaze at roughly 10 a.m. on Thursday and reported it immediately.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service had four firetrucks, one bulldozer and 15 firefighters on the scene. A Forest Fire Service aircraft flew over the scene and dropped water on the blaze, she said.

The fire was not under control as of 11:30 a.m. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Shinske said.
