DWI Accident Split Rt. 9 Utility Pole In Lacey: Police

The 28-year-old driver was initially trapped inside his vehicle after it overturned following the crash, police said.

LACEY, NJ - A drunk driving crash on Route 9 South caused a utility pole to split in half and prompted road closures Friday night, authorities said.

Alexander Stevens, 28, of Lacey Township, was charged with DWI,
Refusing to submit breath samples, reckless driving and related charges in connection with the crash, Lacey police said.

Stevens was served with summonses and was later released.

Lacey police responded to the utility pole crash on Route 9 and Laurel Boulevard at around 10:33 p.m., alongside the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department, Lanoka Harbor First Aid Squad and RWJ Paramedics.

Stevens’ vehicle, a white 2020 Subaru Impreza, was reportedly overturned with the driver entrapped, police said.

But by the time police arrived at the scene, Stevens was out of the vehicle and alert. He was evaluated by paramedics but refused medical attention, police said.

The utility pole, which is around 200 feet south of the intersection, was split in half and required immediate attention from Verizon and JCP&L, police said.

Due to the severity of damage to the pole, Route 9 South was closed at Laurel Boulevard.
