Lacey Library to Host 'It’s a Wonderful Life' Live Radio Play

Live radio presentation will simulate how such shows were produced more than 60 years ago

The Lacey branch of the Ocean County Library will present “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” in December.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is the classic Frank Capra film which depicts family, friendship and the power of community in the face of financial hard times.

“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” presented by Nine Theatricals, is performed as a 1940’s radio broadcast in front of a live audience. It gives modern-day viewers a chance to have a look at the behind-the-scenes work that made such shows a success 60 or more years ago.

In the radio presentation, actors play the numerous characters, and just as in the old radio plays, most sound effects are created on stage by the actors themselves.

The show also includes vintage advertisements and musical underscores that heighten the tension.

The show will be performed Saturday Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Lacey branch, 10 E. Lacey Road, Forked River.

The program is free, but registration is required. Call the library at (609) 693-8566 or register online at http://www.theoceancountylibrary.org/.
