Lacey Police Investigating Fraud Incident
Elderly man, son, victims of online fraud, police chief says

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ - Lacey police are investigating an apparent case of fraud involving an elderly resident after someone gained access to his brokerage account, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.
Officer John McKee responded to a Montauk Drive home in Forked River on a fraud report at 2:49 p.m. on March 26. An elderly man male told police he was having computer problems and that an unknown company had accessed both his and his son's brokerage accounts, the police chief said.
The man told police that the unknown company had transferred money from his son's account into his account. The man was asked to go to Walmart and purchase 10 $500 gift cards and send the cards to them, DiBella said.

When he called the company, they refused to provide any information, including the name of their company. The victim contacted his financial institution and was told the suspicious activity would be investigated, the chief said.
