Lacey Police To Take Part In Operation 'Move Over' This Weekend

Law requires motorists to be cautions around stopped emergency vehicles and change lanes if possible

LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — State Trooper Marc K. Castellano was just doing his job on June 6, 2010.

Castellano was walking along the shoulder of Interstate 195 West near the Exit 31 ramp in Howell Township that morning. He was searching for an alleged armed occupant of an abandoned vehicle connected to an ongoing investigation when he was struck and killed by a passing motorist. He was 29.

The Lacey Township Police Department will be participating in the "Move Over " Operation over Labor Day weekend, Police Chief Michael C. DiBella said.

The initiative comes just after a Manchester Township event where four police officers on a motor vehicle stop were injured when the vehicle they had stopped was struck by another motorist, the chief said.

All Ocean County law enforcement agencies participate in the program, which was designed to educate the motorists on the law.
