Lacey Reacts: Argentina’s Cardinal Bergoglio Elected Pope

Some Lacey residents express excitement while others had hoped for a younger pope

Argentine Jorge Bergoglio has been elected pope and residents of Lacey have taken to Facebook to show their support and disapproval.

White rose from the smokestack of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City on Wednesday afternoon, signaling that the cardinals reached an agreement and selected a new pope. The new leader for the Roman Catholic Church was chosen in five rounds of voting, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Argentine Jore Bergoglio is the first ever from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium. He chose the name Pope Francis.
